Sally Simmons Obituary

A great ole soul, Sally Simmons, met her Creator Monday, July 15, 2024 at 11:40 PM from Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was 85 years old. Sally was born on Jan. 5, 1939 in Ecru. Her parents were the late Milton Whitehead and Sybil Swords Whitehead. She grew up in Pontotoc and Union Counties. Attending Ingomar High School, she was swept off her feet by a dashing young man named Mack Simmons and they were married in l956. To this marriage was born 4 sons. Sally worked at the Ammunitions Plant in Joliet, Illinois during the Vietnam War when she and Mack lived there several years. They later made their lifelong home in Shannon where they founded and operated for many years Simmons Sand and Gravel, later venturing into septic tank installation. Sally loved to laugh, talk, and visit with friends and family. She loved watching westerns on TV as well as Days of our Lives and Wheel of Fortune. A longtime faithful member of Traceland Baptist Church in Verona, Sally encouraged many to seek salvation so they could be where she is today.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 1 PM Friday, July 19, 2024 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with her grandson, Bro. Greg Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 PM-7 PM Thursday (today) and from 11 AM-service time on Friday. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Live streaming at 1 PM and will be archived thereafter.

Survivors include her four sons, Danny Simmons (Angela) of Shannon, Donnie Simmons (Nancy) of Saltillo, Ronnie Simmons and Mike Simmons (Kathy), all of Shannon; her three sisters, Cheryl Hill (Ray) of Verona, Melba Stafford (Gary), and Debbie Taylor (Steve) all of New Albany; nine grandchildren, Keith, Scott, Greg, Mack, Mallorie, Josh, Hope, Nicholas, and Justin; several great-grandchildren; special friend, John Ivy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mack Simmons; special grandson, Michael Simmons, and brother David Whitehead.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Simmons, Scott Simmons, Mack Simmons, Jake Ivy, Zack Ivy, and James Abernathy. Honorary Pallbearer Weston Simmons.
