Sally Smith Obituary

On August 8, 2024, Sally V. Smith joined her husband, Rev. Thomas E. Smith, Jr. in heaven. She was born Sally Frances vonSeutter and raised in Starkville, MS where she later attended classes at Mississippi State University (MSU). At MSU, she met her husband, Tom, with whom she was married for 54 years until his passing in 2018. Together they raised 5 children: Eddie, Kathi, Jon, Chris and Tim (TJ) who blessed them with 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She spent the latter part of her life in Houston, MS in the home her husband Tom had grown up in.

She had many passions throughout her life and was always coming up with new things to do and try! She was an artist, earning her Master of Art degree from Dallas Baptist University. In addition to painting, she has written and illustrated cartoon strips; written articles and hosted a local cable television show entitled, "I found 'It' in Mississippi" ("It" was inspired by the Mississippi community named "It"). She also sewed, knitted, painted and fired clay art; made porcelain dolls; gardened and raised animals. She particularly loved raising chickens and loved having at least one dog by her side. Additionally, she cared very deeply for working with and teaching the men at the Chickasaw County Detention Center. Even after being hospitalized for some time, two of her main concerns were her dogs and the men she ministered to there.

In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she is also survived by her sisters-in-law Karen vonSeutter and Carolyn Porter and brother-in-law Tony Plezia. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Kathi Funderburk to be given to a dog rescue for the boarding and rehoming of her dogs Pumpkin and Coco.

Services to be held at 1pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Cornerstone Church, 713 Starkville Road in Houston. Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of service. Burial to follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Houston. Memorial Funeral Home of Houston is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
