Shirley Morgan Obituary

Shirley Padgett Morgan, 88, of Booneville, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the NHC Place in Anniston, Alabama.

She was born on February 11, 1936, to Erastus Eugene Padgett and Ila Gertrude Green Padgett. She retired November 11, 2005, with USDA Farm Service Agency with 30 plus years of service to the farmers in Prentiss County. As a member of First Baptist Church in Booneville for over 60 years, her strong faith and church too were an important foundation in her life. She was also a member of the Rebekah Sunday School Class, Sunshine Servants (WMU Group), and was Treasurer for the JoyMakers. Shirley also helped at VBS in the Hospitality Room and frequently went on Family Mission Trips to the Baptist Children's Village. She was an avid Booneville Blue Devil and Northeast Tiger basketball fan. People thought they had died and gone to heaven when they received one of her delicious homemade pound cakes.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Booneville with Bro. Jason Reed and Bro. Carter Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at McMillan Funeral Home and on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church.

She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Gary H. (Cherri) Morgan of Anniston, AL and Mr. Mitch Morgan of Booneville, MS; five grandchildren, Mr. Windham (Emily) Morgan of Cumming, GA, Dr. Maggie Morgan Vickers of Hernando, MS, Mr. Garrison Morgan (Fiance' Corinne Lawler), of Atlanta, GA, Mr. Parker Morgan of Atlanta, GA, Mr. MacKenzie (Maya) Morgan of Booneville, MS; her great-grandchildren, Sophie, Julie Catherine, and Rhys Morgan and Davis Vickers; and numerous devoted nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Herschel F. Morgan; her parents; her sister, Maxine Saylors; and her brothers, Gene Padgett and Jimmy Padgett.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 401 West Church Street, Booneville, MS 38829 or charity of choice.

Pallbearers will be Garrison Morgan, Parker Morgan, MacKenzie Morgan, Bill Morgan, Richard Bullock and Phil Purvis.
