Robert Stanton Obituary

DODGE CITY – Robert E. (Bob) Stanton. Early Easter morning, March 27th, 2016, Bob passed away peacefully of natural causes. Bob was being comforted by his wife and family members at home at the time of his passing. Bob was 82 years old.

Bob was born May 25th, 1933, in Durand, WI, son of the late Cashius I and Gladys A (Wade) Stanton. He attended Durand schools and in his early years began his trade as a mechanic.

Bob joined the U.S. Army on February 17th, 1953. During the Korean conflict he was stationed in Colorado with the 153rd Artillery Division. After his discharge in 1956 he moved to Kansas and began employment as a truck driver and continued his diesel mechanics profession working for Brady IHC, John Jillie and W.W. Mfg. Co.

Bob eloped with Gladys I Robinson in Raton, NM on January 1, 1956.

In 1972 he became owner and operator of Bob's Truck & Tractor, offering diesel mechanics and Deutz irrigation engine sales and service. In 1976 Bob formed a partnership and B & J Wrecker service was created.

After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1979 he later retired from his business.

Bob was a member of the American Legion, Post 0047.

Bob's love of flying inspired him to build two experimental aircrafts: a Baby Great Lakes and a Piper Cub. He enjoyed spending time with his flying comrades at the Wilroads Gardens Airport. His other interests included gardening and working on projects in his shop.

Bob is survived by his three children: son Keith and wife Shirley Stanton, daughter Kathy and husband Dan Williamson, and daughter Karen and husband Michael Roth; five grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Christopher Buddy, Michelle and husband Craig Richardson, Krista Stanton and Jason Mata, Nicholas Williamson, and Kaleb Dressler; and eight great grandchildren: Olivia, Allie, Julianne, Brayden, Laney, Cassian, Lucey, and the newest due in July.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 10:30am at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Rev. Rod Young officiating. Burial will follow in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City, with full military rites by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and Military Honors for the State of Kansas. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
