Dorothy Agnes Careccia, 95, originally from Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully in Birmingham, Alabama, on December 21, 2024.
Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1929, to Edward Bryan and Marion Holmes Lane, and was affectionately known as "Bubbles" and "Dot" by those closest to her. Dorothy spent her childhood in Howard Beach, Queens and fished through holes and collected barnacles. Dorothy led a very active life, including working as a sheet metal mechanic until the age of 67. She spent over 45 wonderful years residing in Daleville, Alabama and befriending everyone she met.
Upon retirement, she went back to school to study upholstery- a hobby that she enjoyed and continued for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, traveling, telling jokes, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Marion Lynn Patrias (Birmingham, AL) and Susan Ann McLaughlin (Dothan, AL), along with eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.

I met Dottie thru her daughter, Marion Patrias. She and I were teaching Catholic Religion to K thru 3 on Sundays at the Church on Ft. Rucker. Dottie became a special lady to me, somewhat like a second mother. Dottie was a strong woman and a force to be reckoned with. And the way she loved her family was with a strong hand and an open heart. Dottie will be missed.
