Evelyn Jeter

Evelyn (Lynn) Grizzard Jeter, formerly of Enterprise, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, in Navarre, Fla., after a lengthy illness. She was born in Sheffield and was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Chi Omega. After graduation she moved to Enterprise to teach home economics at Coffee County High School. She embraced Enterprise as her new hometown. It was there she met and married her husband of 52 years, Jack L. Jeter, and spent many years working with him in his accounting office. She was a member of The Sorority, Sesame Study Club and was the first woman appointed to the Enterprise School Board and went on to serve as its president. She was also active in her faith and in the Presbyterian Church of America.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walton Williamson Grizzard and Blanche Grizzard Clopton, and her husband, Jack L. Jeter. She is survived by two daughters, Jan (Jim) Eastman and Jennifer (Mike) Sanders, both of Navarre, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michelle (Adam) Sterling, Yorktown, Va., Melissa Eastman, Pensacola, Fla., Matthew Eastman, Na-varre, Phillip (Christy) Sanders, Pelham, and Jonathan Sanders, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Mel-anie Rose Sterling, (Virginia) and Corbin Troy Sanders (Alabama).
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. at Meadowlawn Cemetery with the Rev Todd Baucum officiating. Burial will follow with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Enterprise High School rebuilding fund.
