For unto them, the late Glister Collins and Arilla Collins, their third child was born on Aug. 6, 1929, in Jackson County, Fla., and her name shall be called Laura Mae Collins. Early in her life, Laura attended Snow Hill AME Church in Malone, Fla., and remained a devoted member. In 1947, upon her matrimony to Charlie Nix, she joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Later in her Christian journey, she became a member of Triumph the Kingdom of God in Christ, where she remained a faithful member until death. As a faithful and well-devoted member, she was the Shepherds mother and a licensed teacher and she was instrumental in assisting to rebuild the church after it was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Nix spearheaded many fundraising projects to obtain a telephone in church, pastor study and dining hall. She had a positive impact on many people in the community, the young and the old, the rich and the poor and the sick and the shut-in. Her spirit of laughter can be heard and felt from deep within. Mrs. Nix always had encouraging spiritual words of advice which she shared with everyone. She always ended every conversation with, "Smile and the world will smile with you."
She leaves to cherish her memories five children, Ruby Nix Harris of Dothan, Wayne Nix, Henry Nix (Patricia), Gregory Nix and Lawrence Nix, all of Gordon. In addition, she also leaves her siblings to cherish her life, Luevina Thurman, Elsie Mae Dawsey of Malone, Fla., three god sisters, Mandy Williams of Bainbridge, Ga., Mary Ann Moore of Cottonwood and Ethel Alexander of Gordon, Roy A. Collins and Nathaniel Collins (wife Velma) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Billy Collins of Malone. Mrs. Nix had a great influence toward her seven grandchildren which she cherished, Shawanda, Terez, Keisha, Kanetha, Shedrick, Maurice, Corinthian, Artavious and Makiyah. Mrs. Nix will also be remembered by the children of the late Jambers and Willie Mae Teague, the children of Matthew and the late Linda Jackson, Charles and Gail Cain. Mrs. Nix will also be remembered by a host of many family members and friends.
