Nancy Walker Obituary

Nancy Jo Walker

Nancy Jo Walker passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021. She was born October 28, 1952. Nancy was a long-time resident of Dothan but lived the past few years in Columbus, GA and Auburn, AL.

She was a devoted member of Dothan Christian Fellowship for many years until she joined Wiregrass Church in 2004. She loved her local church and served in several different roles as a faithful volunteer. She especially knew how to welcome all who walked through the doors extending greetings and love. In addition to her work with the local church, she was an avid advocate of mission work. She participated in several mission trips to Bosnia and Afghanistan.

Nancy supported many young people through the years with prayers and cards for those participating in mission trips or by simply sending copies of newspaper articles about the sports activities of all the children she loved.

For many years Nancy taught Bible studies at a prison along with supporting local jail ministries. She recognized the needs of many people and sought to love and help all she could.

In addition to her devotion to Christ and people, she loved gardening and landscaping. Her career included working with Buds N Blossoms Nursery for over twenty years and then landscaping with the City of Dothan.

She dearly loved her cats. She also volunteered with the Dothan Spay and Neuter Clinic for several years.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Roscoe Walker of El Dorado, AR and Virginia Walker of Dothan, sisters Kathy Walker Burnside of El Dorado and Jenny Lou Walker of Chipley, FL. She is survived by three nephews, Hank, Chet and Bill Lewis of El Dorado and cousin, Karon Edwards of Dothan.

A memorial service for Nancy will be held at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, July 21 at Wiregrass Church in Dothan, AL.

Contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, 255 Jerry Dr, Dothan, AL 36303 or to HIS Prison Ministries, P.O. Box 10025, Dothan, AL 36304 or your favorite charity.

One of Nancy´s gifts was the gift of encouragement. My three children received little notes from Nancy when they had excelled in something or had been recognized for some activity. Those notes communicated love, encouragement, and acceptance. They are stronger adults today because Nancy made small deposits in their emotional development that gave them courage and confidence. Thank you Nancy. We all need Nancy´s in our lives. She was reflecting the character of Christ.

Ms. Nancy was a wonderful and caring part of the Dothan community but she was also a great friend. I worked with Ms. Nancy at the Wiregrass Spay Neuter Alliance where she acted as a friend and mother to us all. She never failed to bring a smile to my face or comfort me in times of sorrow. She was fiercely protective of the people she loved and supported me on many occasions. I loved her stories and I loved her spirit. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Nancy´s cats Sage and Tanzy were 2 of my first patients when I moved to Dothan in 1990. She loved her kitties as much as she loved life. She always had a kind word, left a kind note or a sweet email just because. I enjoyed hearing stories of her travels and she lived by her own rules and I admired her for that.

Sorry to hear this. Always loved Nancy's uplifting attitude about life. I have heard her speak at different functions and she was wonderful. I am sure she will be missed. Prayers for her family.
