Sara was a 1944 graduate of Duke University, and always a huge Blue Devil basketball fan. She was a member of AAP Sorority and a former flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. Ms. Oates was an avid horsewoman; she spent many years showing horses and teaching riding lessons. She was an active supporter of the ASPGA and was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Dothan.
She is survived by Walter B. Oates of Birmingham; Carol Gentemann of Destin, Fla.; Wyatt S. Oates of Headland; Frank B. Oates of Auburn; Laurie Smith of Orange Beach; and nine grandchildren.
