Vernon Abbott Obituary

Vernon "Vern" H. Abbott. of Buena Vista, Colo., passed away suddenly on Friday, March 16, 2018. Vern was born Nov. 11, 1940 in Milford, to Edward and Winona (Miller) Abbott. He married Janet Elliott on June 16, 1962.

Vern started his CPA career in Chicago, Ill., and moved to El Paso, Texas, and then to Colorado Springs, Colo. He and his wife have lived in Buena Vista since 2003. Vern worked in private practice until retiring in 2006.

He loved to play cards, especially bridge, fish, hunt, tennis, travel and golf. Vern and Jan spent time traveling the U.S. in a camper to see family, friends and visit national parks. He loved his children and grandchildren and visited them as often as possible. Vern loved his canine friends.

Vern was an active member of Trout Unlimited, the Optimist Club and regularly attended Clear View Community Church. He was a supporter of Habitat for Humanity, Young Life, and the Backpack Ministry.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, thousands of pike, walleye and bass, and hundreds of ducks.

He is survived by his wife Jan (55 years); son the Rev. Tom (Deb) Abbott of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter Sherri (Brent) Stoltzfus of Colorado Springs, Colo.: sister Judith Abbott of Dover; grandchildren Samuel (Melissa) Abbott of Spokane Wash., Nicole (Paul) Warner of Boise, Idaho, Hanna (Craig) Bingham of Lost County Earth; Drew (Kiana-fiancé) Stoltzfus of Denver, Colo.; Cousins Earl (Carol) Abbott, Dot Abbott, and Kathy (Walt) Becker, and their children of Dover.

A memorial Service was held March 31 at Clear View Community Church in Buena Vista. Friends and family who choose to honor Vern may make memorial contributions to Clear View Community Church of Buena Vista, Colo., (General fund), Cottonwood Presbyterian Church of Murray Utah, (General fund), or Young Life, Arkansas Valley (General fund).
