Gary Severa

Fall River, MA -Gary Bruce Severa, 77, of Little Compton, Rhode Island, died on February 6, 2024. He was the husband of Nancy (Eckersley) Severa.

Born in Newport, RI on February 1, 1947, He was the son of Arthur and Lucy (McLeod) Severa.

Gary grew up in Portsmouth, yet spent four years of his youth living in Italy, while his father was stationed there in the Navy. When they returned to RI, he lived on Union Street in Portsmouth and began a lifelong hobby repairing and restoring antique tractors. He served in the Navy himself during the Vietnam War on the Aircraft Carrier USS Shangri-La, and later continued his service in the Reserves where he was assigned to the Seebees. For many years, he worked in heavy equipment repair for Duro Finishing in Fall River. Gary was a longtime member of the Tiverton and Fall River Rod and Gun Clubs, enjoyed many camping adventures, and plenty of fishing trips. Gary also loved Nascar racing and was once on the tv broadcast holding up the American flag at a race. And over the past years, he enjoyed spending time daily with "Pops" and all the Helger family of Little Compton. If you knew Gary, you knew him as Papa. Most of all, Gary will be missed for the extra attention and love he showed for his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his wife Nancy of Little Compton, and his children; Renee Jobin and Arthur Severa, both of Portsmouth, his siblings; Guy Severa, Gaye Turner, Gail Uecker, and six beloved grandchildren; Alyssa Arsenault (Josh Cardin), Matthew Arsenault, Kelsey Severa, Lily Severa, Cazz Jobin, Nicole Lister (Parker Collins), and his great-grandson Michael Cardin. Gary is preceded in death by his parents Lucy and Arthur Severa.
