Albert Assali Obituary

Dr. Albert Assali
April 21, 1937 - January 19, 2022
Fremont, California
Born in Les Cayes, Haiti, the oldest of six children, he was an exceptional student from a young age. He had a love of learning that never waned during his lifetime. He excelled academically graduating from Harvard University before earning his medical degree from Columbia University in New York. Albert completed his internship and residency at Bellevue Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital in New York City. He met his wife of 57 years there and after they married, made their home in Demarest, NJ. In 1969, they moved to San Diego where he served for two years as Lieutenant Commander in the Navy at Balboa Naval Hospital. In 1971, they moved to Fremont, CA where he opened his private practice and joined Washington Hospital. He retired from surgery in 2008 and eventually retired from work in 2016. He was an avid gardener, chef and was often found with his head in a book with classical music playing loudly in the background. His greatest joy came from simply spending time with his devoted family. He is survived by his wife, Cora, three daughters (Evelyne, Karen and Tina) and 7 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following scholarship fund to continue his legacy by assisting college students in the Tri-Cities area studying medicine.
