Alfredo Fruguglietti Obituary

Alfredo Paulo Fruguglietti 1912 - 2004 The son of Raffaele & Teresa Fruguglietti, Alfredo was born November 1, 1912 in Grumento Nova, Potenza, Italy. In 1937 he married Georgina Maria Fortunato,. In October of 1940 Alfredo was drafted into Italian Army and in 1943 was wounded and became a prisoner of war of Nazi Germany. He was liberated in 1945 by American troops, weighing only 79 pounds. He hitched 1200 miles home to Italy to be reunited with his family. Once back home, he established himself as a craftsman and cabinetmaker. In 1956 a family member offered to sponsor Alfredo and he was able to immigrate to America. The Fruguglietti family settled in Albany, California and were active with the St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Figlie d'Italia (Sons of Italy) Club. Alfredo worked for the DeCarlo Cabinet Company in Albany until he retired in 1976. In 1996 he and Giorgina moved to Shafter to be near family and soon Giorgina passed away May 25, 1996. The eight years that followed her death were good years, but he never could quite get over losing her. On March 20, 2004 after a brief illness, he went to be with her again. Alfredo is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lina & Paul Rago of Sunnyvale, CA, son and daughter-in-law, Ralph & Anne Fruguglietti of Shafter, CA, grandchildren, Rosann Rago Madden & her husband, Dan, their children, Nicolas, Angelina, Alfredo & his wife, Julie, and their children, Siena and Sofia, and J.P., Anthony, Katina and Theresa Fruguglietti, brother & sister-in-law, Mario & Lorraine Fruguglietti, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wed., Mar. 24 from noon-8pm at Sunset View Funeral Home, El Cerrito. Rosary will be recited Wed., Mar. 24 at 7pm at Sunset View Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said Thurs., Mar. 25 at 11am at St. Joseph's Cemetery Chapel, San Pablo. Officiating will be Fr. George of St. Ambrose's Church and Rev.
