Genevieve Evelyn Gearhart (Witmer) passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2015 at Bay Park Senior Center, Pinole.
Genevieve was born in Maxwell, Iowa to Frank W. Witmer and Hazel M. Witmer (Mather).
In 1938 she married her childhood sweetheart, Marion Earl Gearhart in Des Moines, Iowa. They left Iowa for Berkeley, California, arriving in 1942 with only $12 to their name. They loved California and were to live in the East Bay for the remainder of their lives. Following Marion's service in the US Army, they raised two children together, Wayne and Nancy. Genevieve was a homemaker who loved working in her garden and she and Marion were lifelong members of St Luke's Methodist church in Richmond. They were both active members of the Scottish Rite fraternal organization, where Genevieve was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, eventually becoming President of the Mission Bell Lodge. Following Marion's retirement they loved to travel with their RV group and spend time with their granddaughters.
Genevieve was always an extremely happy person who lived life to the fullest over her 98 years. She is greatly missed by her daughter Nancy, her son-in-law Michael Davidson and her granddaughters Michelle and Lesley. She was preceded in death by her son Wayne and her husband Marion.
Visitation and Memorial Service will be on December 10th, at Wilson and Kratzer Mortuary, 13644 San Pablo Avenue, San Pablo, CA 94806. Visitation commences at 9am followed by a Service at 11am. Burial will follow at Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
