George Heath Obituary

George Heath
September 21, 1915 - May 27, 2015
Resident of Piedmont
Devoted father to Stacey Joens, Brook Rolph Heath, Blair Heath Gerttula, and Holly Fuller Lea. Raised in Berkeley and resided in Piedmont for over 56 years, George passed away on Wednesday, May 27th.
Born in 1915, George grew up in Berkeley and attended Berkeley High. Before and during the depression and throughout World War II George's family owned Heath Dairy Creamery. When he was a young man George helped in all aspects of the family's business but particularly in building routes, managing drivers and delivering milk to their customers. During the War George left the creamery business to work as a welder in the shipyards. After a year or so he was recruited back to the family business until George's father, George R Heath, Sr. sold the business in late 1940s. George left the dairy business and pursued a career in Real Estate. From that time on George made real estate his passion and business focusing on Piedmont and Oakland areas. His success led him to owning his own company, The George R. Heath Company, which he ran for over 40 years. Over time it evolved into a Family Office managing his portfolio of real estate and other investments.
Recognized by many as one of the last great gentlemen, George was a familiar figure on Grand Avenue where he kept his office throughout his real estate career. To the amazement of all who knew him or just recognized him as he went through his daily affairs, he continued to go to his office five days a week until last week. To accompany him on his daily routine was to witness the many diverse people of all ages and lifestyles who would greet him. He will be remembered and missed by his sense of humor from all who knew him.
George, having lost the love of his life, his wife Kathryne Lasher Heath (fondly known as "Tudy") early, he was charged with raising their four children on his own. While never remarrying, he focused on creating a strong family unit. As the patriarch of the family, George was an inspiration to all. He was loved and respected and he will be deeply missed.
George recently lost his only son, Brook R. Heath to cancer. Survived by his three daughters, Stacey Joens, Blair Heath Gerttula and Holly Fuller Lea, his 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

I joined to Pacific Mutual in 1959 in the age of 32. George was a respected elder member of the Agency, a nice, friendly and helping associate. We had a friendly, interesting relationship during the years I was with the company.

The first time I met George, he asked if I wanted to see him wiggle his ears and he did. When he came to Modesto to see his brother Frank (My stepdad), he always had a smile and a new joke to tell. You will be missed by all, but you left people with great memories. Rest in peace. Sandy McGuff

George was a great family man and businessman. He helped me out early in my own business career on only faith and a handshake. I have always admired him greatly. Bruce Taylor

I only met Mr. Heath a couple of years ago but have seen him almost daily since as we worked in the same building. Coming to work every day he was an inspiration to all of us who are beginning the process of getting on in years.
Always cheerful, patient and friendly he was a favorite even among the workers who were remodeling the floor his office was on. I will miss him.

We owned the building for 20 years, where he kept his office and we live in Piedmont a block away from his home. I met with him regularly and once he even gave me a ride home. He was an exceptionally fine gentlemen.
I will miss him and remember him.
