Whether you knew her as Marie, Guadalupe, Sister or Aunt Lupe, she was a very special lady. Very cosmopolitan. She had style and a personality that greeted you with her warm smile, brazos and a kiss. She was so generous with her time and I loved her hospitality. When I was just a little girl I remember how she would show me her room and the jewelry she wore. In my eyes it was all so elegant and it was surely worth a million dollars. I was later convinced she was worth at least a million dollars when she rode around in the beautiful turquoise/aqua thunderbird.
In the late 70’s I was very fortunate to live near Aunt Lupe and Uncle Denny in San Francisco just a few miles away. By then the lesson I had learned from Aunt Lupe was that wealth was an inside job. What we carried within our own hearts was worth more than any monetary wealth. I worked just a few city blocks from Aunt Lupe. When we met for lunches in the basement of Macy’s I always felt the love that Aunt Lupe had for the City and the pride she had for her job. When I visited her apartment she and the love of her life, Denny would always have such great stories to share and they together were so positive about life and its possibilities. I away went home with great confidence on how I could conquer whatever I set out to do.
When uncle Denny passed away Aunt Lupe was very lonely and kept herself very busy with friends and activities. I would come by and pick her up for dinner and she would always cut out the newspaper’s restaurant reviews so we could try out new places. Yummy. What wonderful memories.
One of my adventures in life was selling Mexican Christmas imports. She was very supportive and generous. She insisted that I stay with her when I was in the City attending the SFO Gift Show. She even offered to bring me lunch when I was selling my imports, so I didn’t have to leave my booth. I think she just didn’t want me to miss out on any sales. She was excellent at providing customer service. I enjoyed her company and tips about sales.
My Aunt Lupe loved her family. I loved when she would tell me the historical things about our family, how my grandparent met and how they raise my uncles and aunts, etc. It was such an honor to spend time with Aunt Lupe.
Christmas 2003 Aunt Lupe spent Christmas day with us at my brother Steve’s house. She had the smile and happiness within her that was worth all the wealth in the world. On that day she gave me the same advice I had heard her tell me before. You have to follow what’s within your heart. Thank you Aunt Lupe, you never steered me wrong.
Enjoy your new home and everlasting wealth among the Angels.
