Pam Wehrman Obituary

Pamela D. Wehrman Resident of Diablo Pamela (Pearson) Wehrman died on June 19, 2009 peacefully at home surrounded by her family and close friends following a courageous, near year-long battle against Amyloidosis. Pam was born in Oakland and raised in Orinda, the only child of Roy and Dorothy Pearson. Upon graduating from Miramonte High School where she was a popular student and member of the cheerleading squad, Pam received her BA and Teaching Credential from San Jose State. She taught for eleven years in the Santa Clara School District (Mariposa Elementary School) and was always proud of her classroom which she insisted had to be a stimulating environment for her students. Pam met Lyle (Butch) Wehrman, Jr. through her mother and step father who were friends with Lyle's parents. Pam and Lyle were married for almost 33 years and had two children, Mark and Lindsay. Pam devoted her time to being a stay at home mom and making sure both children were busy in as many activities as possible including the Cub Scouts in which she was Den Mother and the Brownies, horse riding lessons, dancing, T-ball and SRV Little League, Diablo Country Club swim team, Mustang Soccer, and Monte Vista Football. She enjoyed old-fashioned canning which resulted in apple and tomato sauces, jams and jellies to be enjoyed throughout the year. Her apple pies were famous among lucky family members and friends. Her love of fresh, well-prepared meals and her gourmet cooking skills were on display at family dinners and birthday celebrations for family and friends. This was a passion she got from her mother and a talent of which she was proud. She could often be seen walking with friends around the Lafayette Reservoir with her beloved golden retriever, Tucker leading the way. Dogs in Pam's life were lucky dogs indeed, receiving home-made dog biscuits, car rides, and her love. Trips to Carmel beach to run the dogs were treasured by Pam as was the shopping and dining. Even with this full life, Pam found time to serve the community helping to raise literally millions of dollars over the years as the Head Chair for the Hill Branch of the Oakland Children's Hospital Annual Winter Ball. Her skills at asking for and receiving large donations of wine for the gala event are legendary. Every Christmas, she would buy dozens of Teddy Bears and deliver them anonymously to Oakland Children's Hospital to help comfort the children there. Pam is survived by her husband of almost 33 years, Lyle, her two children Mark and Lindsay, her daughter-in-law Kristy (Kirkpatrick), father-in-law Lyle Wehrman, sister-in-law Tudi Wehrman, step brother Rick Dame', uncle Gavin Priest, and her "furry son" Tucker and "mutt" Marley. She was preceded in death by her loving mother Dorothy and her father Roy, her step father Carl Dame', and her mother-in-law Joan Wehrman. Pam's family and friends will never forget her vibrant and caring personality, her beautiful smile, and her warmth and spirit which would light up a room. Her strength and elegance throughout her ordeal was admired by family, friends, and the doctors and nurses at both John Muir and Stanford Hospitals. Her family wants to thank all of Pam's devoted friends who provided moral support, prayers, and loving kindness during her difficult journey, as well as the caring people from Hope Hospice. Pam's friends are invited to join in memorial services for her at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Ave., Oakland on July 10 at 11am followed by a celebration of her life at Diablo Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, PO Box 151200, San Rafael CA 94025 and/or Northern California Golden Retriever Rescue, 405 El Camino Real Ste.#420, Menlo Park CA 94025.

I am so sad to lose such a bright light as a friend and member of Hill Branch. Her boundless smile and energy always lit up the room and made people at ease. She always had a compliment for someone and her warm spirit embraced us all. It is with a tear that I say good by to this loving, tender woman who touched us all with her courage and her many gifts.

Mrs W was the best cook on planet Earth! Thank you Mrs. Wehrman for adding so much to my earlier years, for making life fun, picking us up all over town in the big white station wagon, for feeding all of us and allowing me to rack up ,what had to have been, quite the food tab.

Mr. Wehrman, you were the quite backer of all of it, you worked hard so we all could play, and swim and live life. Thank you.

p.s. Mrs. Wehrman, the way you were always able to find money on the ground was nothing short of impressive.
