Salvador Marquez Obituary

SALVADOR SANCHEZ MARQUEZ, SR. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, October 21, 2003, age 83. Beloved husband for 57 years of Helen V. Marquez of Hayward. Loving father and father-in-law of Mary Ellen Jeffery, Salvador Marquez, Jr. and his wife Debra all of Hayward. Devoted grandfather of Monica Simsek and her husband John of Castro Valley, Salvador Marquez, III and Cliff Marquez both of Hayward; great-grandfather of Kyle Simsek and Nicholas Simsek. He was the oldest of 12 children of the late Aurelio and the late Mary Marquez. Dear brother of Bella Hinojosa of San Lorenzo, Annie Martin of Hayward, Dolores Chavez of Tracy, Frances Griego of New Mexico, John Marquez of Colorado and Laudimero Marquez of Hayward. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Marquez was a U.S. Army WWII veteran who was in the South Pacific Theatre. An avid gardener who enjoyed helping others, he distributed food and veggies from his garden to local "Food Pantries" and helped in collecting "Toys for Tots." He was a good Samaritan. He loved playing horseshoes. He and his wife enjoyed dancing and were the oldest and longest members of "The Mr. and Mrs. Club" of Castro Valley. Friends are invited to attend a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Bede's Catholic Church, 26950 Patrick Ave. in Hayward. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
