Thomas Scott Canterberry, 63, passed away from cancer on Tues., Aug. 11, 2015 at his own home, surrounded by friends and family members. He was a lifelong resident of Alameda County.
Tom was born on April 10, 1952 in Oakland. Tom's earliest years were spent in the Washington Manor neighborhood of San Leandro, where he resided with his parents and sister. When family difficulties forced fourteen school moves during grammar school years, Tom became so experienced at being "the new kid," that he made it his mission in life to always help people feel welcome and included. He graduated from Marina High School in 1970, where he played football, basketball, and baseball.
Tom was a real estate agent in the Southern Alameda County area, an avid golfer, a member of the Willow Park Men's Club, and an attendee of Christ Church Tri-Valley in Pleasanton.
Tom was a loving husband, wonderful father, a devoted friend, and a kind person to all who knew him. He leaves his loving wife, Martie Canterberry, his adoring son Thomas Jefferson "TJ" Canterberry, and a very large group of friends who cherished him like a brother. His nickname was "Handsome Tommy."
He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Juanita Canterberry, his sister Pamela Gayle Canterberry, and his father, Samuel McNary Canterberry.
We will be celebrating Tom's homegoing on Sat., Aug. 29th. Services are at 11 a.m. at Neighborhood Church (3 Crosses) in Castro Valley, followed by a reception at Willow Park Event Center, Castro Valley, at 12:30 p.m.
