Thomas Flood Obituary

Thomas Maxwell Flood of Danville, California passed away peacefully in his home on May 5, 2023, after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was born on March 8, 1944, to Katherine Lenore and Bernard Paul Flood in San Jose, California. He graduated from Victor Valley High School in 1962, where he played football, baseball and was Student Body President. Throughout the summers, he worked at 76 Gas Stations owned by a family friend in Victorville. Always a hard worker, Tom went on to study History at Stanford University where he was a member of Theta Xi fraternity. After graduating from Stanford in 1966 with a bachelor's degree, he landed his first job at AT&T. He began his successful 28-year career as a manager and happily retired as the Vice President of Operator Services at Pacific Bell. When Tom retired in 1994, he spent his time traveling, fishing, golfing, watching his beloved Stanford Cardinal and 49ers, collecting coins, stamps and other historical documents. Following his interests, Tom started his own business - Flood Autographs and Collectibles. Tom spent many hours researching and studying his genealogy back to the 15th Century. As an 8th generation Californian, he was an active member of Los Californianos and honored to be elected to the Board of Directors. Tom enjoyed spending time with family, especially his eight grandchildren going to their school plays, sports games, field trips and EVERY birthday celebration! His love and support for them was endless. Tom is survived by his daughters; Hilary Navone and Elizabeth Leal and his eight grandchildren; Olivia Navone, Thomas Navone, Joseph Navone, Amelia Navone, Aron Leal, Will Leal, Sarah Leal, John Leal, his four younger siblings; Andrea Bardwell, Timothy Flood, Michael Flood and Sharon Tsutsumi, along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved, long-time partner Lynne Reynolds and her daughter Jenise Reynolds. Tom was preceded in death by his loving parents. A celebration of life will be at Oakmont Memorial Park on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 10:30am in Inspiration Chapel.

I adored Tom as did everyone who went to high school with him. My condolences to Lynne, his daughters and grandchildren. He was a very special man. I remember a trip to the dump to gather broken glass for the prom. We were actually very smart, but that was not our brightest move. Tom cut himself and I was the only one who could drive his stick shift to get him to the hospital. Then the memory fades.

I was on the 18th floor of the New Montgomery building in downtown SF. Tom was down the hall. The 1989 earthquake shook us all around 5p. Tom came down the hall asking who lived in East Bay and needed a ride. I jumped at the offer and finally got home late to my family. Thanks to the generous outreach and consideration of Tom, several of us were not stranded in SF. He was always friendly and easy to work with. I lost touch but kept up to date via a mutual friend. He is in my prayers. Condolences to the family.

A great loss! Those of us that were part of the Pac Bell Skunk Works enjoyed his unique mentorship. He made a difference in the world!
