Arlene O. Tejes

Arlene O. Tejes, 82, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, May 28 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born March 23, 1927 in Rutland Township, the daughter of Charles and Gail Petersen Payne. She had been a resident of the Elgin area all of her life. She was co-owner of A. O. Tejes Contracting in St. Charles before retiring. She was involved in the Elgin Rock and Mineral Society. Surviving are two children, Warren (Chris) Tejes of Elgin and Lucinda (Frank) Birkhead of Elgin; eight grandchildren, Pam (Chris) Brown, Amy (David) Westphal, Karen (Jeff) Selby, Polly (Richard) Herried, Phillip (Lisa) Birkhead, Franklin Birkhead (Amy Vascia), Michael (Dana) Bennett-Tejes and Penny Mann; five great-grandchildren; five brothers, Leonard Creed, Robert Creed, David Payne, Roger Payne and Ronald Payne. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Frank Creed; her husband, William M. Tejes on May 27, 1981; a son, William M. Tejes Jr; two sisters, Gail Kellenberger and Charlotte Marsh; and two brothers, Harold and Richard Payne; and a great-granddaughter, Kathryn Birkhead. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 1, at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 p.m., in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Diabetes Association.
