Casey Jones Obituary

Casey Loyd Jones, 79, of Union, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born in Briceville, Tennessee, on Jan. 25, 1943, to the late Herbert and Ollie (Phillips) Jones. On June 14, 1963, he married Betty J. Funderburk in Elkhart. She passed away on Jan. 30, 2018, after 55 wonderful years together.

Also preceding Casey are brothers John L. Jones, Freeman "Buddy" Jones and Herbert Lee Jones; and sisters Lula Pace, Willene Phillips and Lorena Jordan; and stepmother Goldie Jones. Surviving Casey are sons Dan (Aimee Badtke) Jones of Elkhart and Randy Jones of Texas; daughters Lisa (Bob) Bivens of Osceola and Wanda (Phillip) Goodman of South Bend; brother Roland G. Jones of Oliver Springs, Tennessee; grandchildren Brittany (Chris) Decker, Marranda, Kammbria and Jillian Bivens, Kaylee, Carson and Heather Jones, Stephanie Kuhl, Elizabeth Umstead and Sam and Katie Ivers. He is also survived by a loving host of great-grandchildren, extended family and good friends.

In accordance with his wishes, Casey is to be buried at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart is assisting the family with arrangements.

Casey, or "C.L." as his close friends called him, worked as a maintenance supervisor in the lumber industry most of his life. He had a natural aptitude at mechanics and could build or invent just about anything. He would spend hours in his garage workshop just tinkering. He was also somewhat of a metallurgical artist; that is, he would weld old metal parts into whimsical characters and designs.

C.L. was also revered for his sage wisdom and knowledge when it came to living life. He was careful never to be overbearing, but many looked to him for advice, and he always had something encouraging and thoughtful in response. He was an avid gardener, growing huge tomato plants, and loved to take care of his lawn and watch the birds that visited the area. He also enjoyed visiting the casinos every now and again and loved to help folks whenever he could.

Dan and Lisa he loved you both Deeply. He was so proud of you both. I will always remember is Twinkling eyes when he was kidding around with me and others. He was so proud of the driftwood piece of art. He had to show it to everyone.
