James E. Grove, 85, of Elkhart, passed away on Dec. 5, 2023, at Riverside Village in Elkhart, Indiana. Jim was born on Jan. 31, 1938, in Wakarusa, Indiana, to James R. and Wilma Grove. He married Winifred Ward on May 15, 1982, in Middlebury; she preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2010.
Jim honorably served his country in the United States Army. He and his late wife worked delivering for the United Labor Agency. He was a member of the Elkhart American Legion in Bristol. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his children Terrie Fraher of Madison, Tennessee, Darlene Amerson of Carrabelle, Florida, Rashell Severy of Elkhart, Indiana, Robert (Mary) Ward Jr. of Elkhart and Barbara Lambert of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and his sister, Cheryl (Dennis) Proctor of Elkhart, Indiana. James was preceded in death by his parents James and Wilma Grove, sons, Alan and Bradley Grove, siblings Lee Grove, Keith Grove and Elener White, grandson Dustin Fraher, and great-grandsons Dylan Lambert and JaCorian Amerson.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. where visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Tim Sheets will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in Bristol, Indiana, where Jim will be laid to rest next to his wife Winifred.

Jim and his wife were valued volunteers for Harvest Basket Food Program at the United Labor Agency for Community Services. My sympathy to his family and he indeed did a great job of driving to pick up grocery items from the stores that donated to the program on a weekly basis.
