John Franklin Sternberg, 81, Elkhart, died 12:04 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born April 27, 1941, in Goshen, to Frank and Ilah F. (Kohli) Sternberg. On May 5, 1968, he married Elizabeth Anne (Bates) Sternberg and she died Jan. 7, 2009. Then on Sept. 10, 2011, he married Ethlyn (Hoke) Riley Sternberg.
Surviving are his wife, Ethlyn Sternberg, Elkhart; son, Mark (Susan) Sternberg, Greenfield; daughter, Janet Thompson, Goshen; four grandchildren, Alexander Thompson, Goshen, Ryla and Tyler McCoy, Fortville, and Maxx Piworski, Greenfield; and a sister, Alma Kay (Greg) Gibson, Goshen.
Preceding him in death are his parents and first wife, Elizabeth.
John worked as a truck driver at Goshen Rubber. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Goshen, the Concord Fire Department, Lions and Church of the Brethren Disaster Service. John served in the National Guard and was a Democratic State Convention Delegate.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Oct. 29, at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. Pastor John Hogsett will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief Fund or to Concord Fire Department.
