Quinto J. Squadroni, 95, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Holy Cross Rehab in South Bend. He was born on August 16, 1929, in Mishawaka to Ercole and Teresa (Cesari) Squadroni.
On Aug. 26, 1950, he married the former Janine Banicki. They were married for 68 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janine; son, Bruce Squadroni; sisters, Yolanda Clements, Clara Dykhuizen, and Rosie Squadroni; and brother William Squadroni.
Quinto was a Mishawaka Police officer for 27 years rising to the rank of assistant chief before he retired in 1978. Soon after retirement from the force, he along with his wife, Janine, owned and operated Squads Second Precinct for 22 years. He served as a member of the 3rd District Bar Association for many years. After retirement he served on the Alcohol and Tobacco Commission Board of St. Joe County. From his work on the police force and his connections with patrons at Squads, Quinto was well-known throughout the Michiana area. Always ready to engage in conversation or a good game of pinochle, tonk rum, or euchre, he enjoyed interacting with his many friends. Quinto was always generous and was never known to walk into a restaurant or bar and not buy a meal or drinks for others. He had the innate ability to make friends and treat them like family.
He was a proud member of the DeAmicis Club and was honored to be its oldest and longest living-member. He joined the club at the age of 16 in 1945 and was a continuous member for 79 years. His father was one of the founding members in 1917. He regularly organized bus trips to Chicago race tracks and helped with the annual trips to Festa Italiana in Milwaukee. He also contributed to the club by running his Lasagna/Mostaccioli Dinners to help raise funds for scholarships. Quinto was a long-time club council member whose sharp memory was an encyclopedia of information about the old days growing up on the South Side in his Italian neighborhood. He was proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed his trip to Santarcangelo, Italy, in 1998 with his sons and nephew Dale to connect with his Aunt Auriella and his many Italian cousins.
Quinto was a long-time member of the Italian-American Heritage Society of Notre Dame/Michiana and was chosen as a Columbus Award recipient. He was also a member of The Italian-American Relief Association of Elkhart.
He was a founding member of the Mishawaka High School Alumni Association which began its gathering at Squads Second Precinct. In 2009, Quinto was honored to be inducted into the Mishawaka High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Surviving are two sons, Joel (Minda) Squadroni of Buffalo, Minnesota, and Randy (Deena) Squadroni of Mishawaka; daughter-in-law, Karen Squadroni; sister-in-law Therese Banicki; grandchildren, Kara (Jimmy) Bell, Nico (Katherine) Squadroni, Stephani Squadroni, Aaron (Sarah) Squadroni, Clinton (Carly) Squadroni, Carissa Squadroni, Tessa (Brenton) Graves, Emily (Jose) Squadroni-Roman, Cody (Emily) Squadroni, Maria Squadroni, Josie Squadroni, Brianna Squadroni, and Quinto E. My deepest sympathy to the entire Squadroni family. I worked at squads and Bruce and I had a blast doing it. My mother and her boyfriend went their on several dates. The food was the best in our area. It was the 80's & early 90's. I had 5 jobs raising my family. I look back and wonder how I did it! It was family run buisness and they made everyone feel like family! What wonderful people!! All my love to you.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. Loved spending time at Squads and visiting with Quinto when I lived there. Quinto was good friends with my father Arthur Buda and was a pall bearer for my uncle Fred Buda, both members of DeAmici's. May he rest in peace.
