Richard L. Kidder, 84, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday Oct. 7, 2023, at The Center for Hospice, Esther's House in Elkhart.
He was born Feb. 20, 1939, in Elkhart, Indiana to Lee and Helen (Dodge) Kidder.
On June 11, 1966, in Waco, Texas, he married Marilyn Ann Hassler. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2007, in Elkhart, Indiana. Surviving are his son, Andrew Kidder of Austin, Texas; his caretaker and best friend, Brad Schroeder of Elkhart, Indiana; two sisters, Roberta Prugh of Elkhart, Indiana, and Beth Jones of Mishawaka, Indiana; and a brother, David A. (Carmen) Kidder of Manchester, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn and three siblings, Pat Warfel and Don Kidder, and Carol DeHayes.
Richard was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He loved the history of Elkhart and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. He loved his dog, Dexter, who will miss him dearly. Richard worked at Bendix in South Bend and for Modern Kitchen in Elkhart, and Kitchen Classics in New Buffalo, Michigan.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Waterman-Westbrook-Clouse Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be given to The Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.
