Violet Louise Marsh, 90, of Bristol, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Harmony in Elkhart, Indiana.
Violet was born on Aug. 2, 1933, in Monterey, Indiana, to Arthur W. and Matilda (Harness) Gentry. She married Charles M. Marsh, March 22, 1952. He preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2007.
Violet is survived by her two sons, Rodney Marsh of Cassopolis, Michigan, and Timothy Marsh of Elkhart, Indiana; one granddaughter, Rachael Lundy; and two great-granddaughters, Marissa and Alayna Lundy. Violet was preceded in death by brothers Oris Gentry and Rolland Gentry and sister Caroline Bolenbaugh.
Violet spent her earliest years in Winamac, Indiana, and then Culver, Indiana, where she graduated from high school in 1951. She then lived in Elkhart until 1958. In '58 she picked out the plans for her "dream house" and her husband Charles built it for her on the St. Joseph River in Bristol. She lived there for 66 years.
Violet was a great cook and wonderful homemaker. She also was the bookkeeper for the family woodworking business. At age 9 her father taught her how to play euchre. She played for over 75 years. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, mushroom hunting and especially bluegill fishing.
She was the best mom ever. A cub scout den mother and grade school room mother. She would do anything for her boys. Much different than the life she endured as a child during the Great Depression and World War II. God bless you mom, you will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery in Bristol.
