JONESVILLE — Mr. Benny Lee Cockerham, 68, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cockerham was born May 23, 1949, to Audrey and Pauline Brown Cockerham. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Cockerham was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cockerham was preceded in death by his stepfather, Paul Cockerham; a grandson, Justin Russell; and a brother, A.J. Cockerham. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cathy Stokes Cockerham; three children, Michael (Erin) Cockerham, Angie (Jason) Talley, and Tonia (Ricky) Jones; five grandchildren, Austin, Jace, and Lauren Cockerham, Josh Gardner, and Kelsey Beamer; one stepbrother, Glenn (Dawn) Cockerham; and one stepsister, Paula Cockerham. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Island Ford Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Kennedy and the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Island Ford Baptist Church, 212 N.C. Hwy. 67, Jonesville, NC 28642. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hugh Chatham Hospital for the wonderful care given to Mr. Cockerham. We worked with Angie and Tonya for several years and we know they are nice friendly people and they never met a stranger, I am sure that must have been the same for Benny.
