Born in Alleghany County, as Reba Josephine Upchurch to George Thomas and Victoria Wyatt Upchurch in 1931, she grew up in Laurel Springs and graduated from Alleghany High School in 1949. She met her husband, Dwayne Thomas Miller and married in 1950, when he returned home after World War II. After living all over the world with her husband he retired from the Army, and they settled in Wilkes County in 1966. She raised her three girls and when they were older, she went back to school to study nursing and graduated from Caldwell Community College in 1979. She worked as an RN at Wilkes General Hospital for over 20 years before retiring. Reba enjoyed making clothes for her children when they were young. She enjoyed creating porcelain dolls even designing the clothes they each wore. Always gracious and genteel, she was the center of her family who loved her dearly and will miss her warmth and unwavering support. She opened her home for every occasion and celebration and gave her family a lifetime of cherished memories. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Buddy, Hoke, Bryan and Lewis; sisters, Pearl, Jean and Betty. She is survived by her husband, Dwayne Miller of the home; daughters, Deborah Finney and spouse Mike of Ronda, Lori Traczyk of Mulberrry, and Vicki Massengill and spouse Bob of Moravian Falls; grandchildren, Danny Salley and spouse Kim of Elkin, Jamie Schlicker and spouse Walter of Gastonia, (formerly of Moravian Falls), Amanda Collodel and spouse Dave of Springfield, and Emily Traczyk of Woodbridge; and great-grandsons, Austin Lankford and Wesley Salley. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m.. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Laurel Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Thomas Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO BOX 41, Laurel Springs, NC 28644. The family wishes to thank Mtn. Valley Hospice.
