ELKIN — "Wilbert" Howard Leonard, 79, of Elkin, passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born April 13, 1935, in Forsyth County to Luther and Etta Billings Leonard. Wilbert was retired from Hanes Dyes and Finishing in Winston-Salem as an electrician and attended Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church in Elkin. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Lois Jackie Rogers Leonard of the home; two sons, Rick Leonard of Awendaw, South Carolina, David Leonard and wife Stephanie Leonard of Hays; daughter, Peggy Whitaker and husband Allen of Elkin; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Bill Leonard of Winston-Salem. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church in Elkin with the Rev. Ralph Grose officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Miller Funeral Service in North Wilkesboro is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.millerfuneralservice.com.
