Jose Lapresa Obituary

Jose Antonio "Tony" Lapresa, age 67, of Battle Mountain, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in Globe, Arizona after a battle with cancer. Tony was born in Munitibar, Bizkaia Province, Spain, in 1943 to Narciso and Regina Lapresa, and after completing his military service in the Armada Espanola, he came to the United States in 1968. Tony arrived in Lander County, Nevada in July 1979 where he went to work for Dresser Minerals at the Greystone Mine as a heavy equipment operator. He left Dresser in 1986, working for Brown & Root and then for Echo Bay Minerals until 2000, when he returned to work at the Greystone Mine under MI Swaco ownership, until his retirement in January 2010.
Tony married June Carol Walters in 1982 and they made their home in Battle Mountain. They were long-time members of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and the Obernak Basque Club of Battle Mountain. Tony's favorite hobbies were cooking traditional Basque cuisine, keeping a large garden, and raising small livestock.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, June, in 2006. He is survived by a sister, Begona Lapresa, and two brothers, Jesus and Jose Luis Lapresa, of Bizkaia, Spain; a cousin, Jose Luis Salutregui and family of Battle Mountain, numerous nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic.
A Mass will be celebrated in memory of Tony on Friday, July 2, 2010 at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Battle Mountain, Nevada at 11:00 AM with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tony's memory to the Youth Group of St. John Bosco Catholic Church.
