Randall "Randy" Gordon Mahon, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on April 9, 2025, in Sparks, Nev. at the age of 62.

Randy was born on April 28, 1962, in Tehachapi, Calif. to Gary and Joy Mahon. The son of a railroading family, his early years were spent moving throughout California and Nevada. From ranches to rail towns, deserts to pine-covered hills, Randy developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and the diverse beauty of the West.

In school, Randy was known for his athleticism, creativity, and easygoing nature. He excelled in football, track, and woodworking, and spent his free time fishing, hunting, listening to metal and classic rock, and playing guitar. After relocating to Elko, Nev. in 1979, he met the love of his life, MaryLynn Gonzales. Their bond grew through friendship and laughter, and they were married on September 29, 1984, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

After graduation, Randy joined the Southern Pacific Railroad, proudly following in the footsteps of his father, uncles, and father-in-law. His career spanned 39 years, culminating in his retirement from the Union Pacific in 2022. A skilled and knowledgeable Track Foreman, Randy was known for his integrity, work ethic, and commitment to mentoring the next generation of railroaders.

In 1989, Randy and MaryLynn made their home in Battle Mountain, Nev., where they raised their three children, Jessica, Cassandra, and Thomas. Randy's greatest joy was his family, and he never let the demands of his job keep him from being present. Whether recording home videos, coaching youth football, manning the grill for family get-togethers, or supporting his kids' passions, Randy's devotion and generosity were constants.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, MaryLynn; children, Jessica (Darren), Cassandra, and Thomas (Lilyveth) Mahon; parents, Gary and Joy Mahon; sisters, Sandy (Andrew) Miller and Angela Mahon; and many loving relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Marguerite Mahon and Gordon and Vera Estes, and his brother-in-law and longtime friend, Christopher Gonzales.

A graveside service will be held at the Battle Mountain Cemetery on Friday, April 25 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at The Hideaway. Guests are encouraged to dress casually in honor of Randy's laid-back spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions be made to one of his favorite organizations, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada.
