Cindy and Michael Rawson Obituary

Cindy D. (McGillivray) Rawson, 51, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2009. A loving wife, caring daughter, proud stepmom and mother-in-law, and terrific grandmother, she will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Cindy enjoyed life in El Paso for 15 years after moving from Canada with her husband, Mike. She loved nature and had a special place in her heart for all birds and animals. With her lovely smile, keen sense of humor, beautiful auburn hair and twinkling green eyes, Cindy joins her beloved husband, Michael L. Rawson, to whom she was married for twenty-five years. Cindy is survived by her mother Simone McGillivray, step-daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and David Counts; sisters and brothers-in-law Anne and Ric Hardy and Lynn and Robert Bentley; grandson Cole Rawson Counts; nephews and nieces. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Barb and Tom, Bobbie, Ken and Mary, the 4th floor staff at Providence Memorial Hospital and La Mariposa Hospice, as well as numerous people throughout El Paso who helped care for and support Cindy and her family. A memorial will be held at a future date. Cindy's kind heart will be with us always. "The most serious thing you do on this earth is to love, the rest hardly matters." Jaleen Areen.

Michael L. (Mike) Rawson, 61, of El Paso, TX passed away on January 23, 2009. Mike joins his best friend and devoted wife of 25 years, Cindy (McGillivray), and beloved parents William and Ethel. Continuing to celebrate his larger-than-life personality are daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and David Counts; mother-in-law Simone, sister and brother-in-law Anne and Ric Hardy; sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Robert Bentley; aunt and uncle Vera and Sammy Parker, grandson Cole Rawson Counts; nephews and nieces. Born on February 27, 1947, Mike grew up in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. He lettered in varsity football for 4 years at Nelson High School, winning 2 SOSSA zone championships. After graduating, Mike pursued a career in purchasing/supply chain management becoming a Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.). Mike worked in the purchasing division at leading international corporations including Schwenger Industries, Cornwall Appliances, Harrison Overseas, Worcester Controls and Leviton-Northern Devices. It was Mike's position at Leviton that brought he and Cindy to Texas. As General Manager of Leviton's Scarborough, Ontario, Canada facility, Mike was responsible for it's relocation to El Paso in 1994. Mike loved the outdoors. He spent many years fishing and boating on the lakes and rivers of Ontario. A professional landscaper, Mike owned Wales Landscaping during the 1980s. His talent and enjoyment of landscaping remained with him throughout his life. On evenings and weekends (unless he was watching NASCAR), Mike was outside working in his yard. He was also a huge fan of Doo Wop and old Rock N' Roll. Countless Friday nights were spent in the backyard enjoying a BBQ and listening to classics from the 1950s and 60s. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Barb and Tom, Bobbie, Ken and Mary, the 1st floor and 3rd floor staff at Providence Memorial Hospital, as well as numerous people throughout El Paso who helped care for and support Mike and his family. A memorial will be held at a future date. Mike was truly loved and will always be in our hearts. Please remember him in yours. "In dreams I walk with you. In dreams I talk to you." Roy Orbison

Cindy,
Everyday is a struggle and puzzle to me knowing your enduring, generous friendship is gone. I loved you both and I know till the very end you struggled to protect Mike and your mom by making their health your TOP PRIORITY.
You only kept yourself busy worrying about those who depended on you not things you could not control.
You can't control the length of your life but you can control its width and depth.
Your legacy is that when your love concentrates so instantly on another that you forget yourself at that moment in time, your actions will impact the external destiny of others.
Dear friend, you showed me that love transcends and spirits unite when you came back for Mike.
Cindy Lou Who as I called you, you rocked my world and I will never ever forget your love and lasting friendship.
Mike, you precious oldies but goodies friend, you both left this world with dignity and class.
You both truly rocked my world. I miss you deeply my friends.
Only you both know who your true friends were and we are still here thinking of you .
My eternal gratitude for your friendships.
I will always love you both,
MARY ESTHER BLUE, KENNETH BLUE, HARLEY

Cindy was the most kind hearted soul and was so very devoted to Mike and her wonderful companions-her animals. She dearly loved Cody,Mitzy,Minnie, and Momma.

I will always carry a laugh in my heart for the very witty and hilarious animation called alien song-done to the Gloria Gaynor song,"I will survive". She had a wicked good sense of humor!

Cindy always made room for an abandoned dog or cat-she had a huge heart and will truly be missed by so many. I know that she and Mike are still together with all of her babies. We love you Cindy and will miss you so very much!!

We look forward to a memorial for both of you!
