CLAUDE LOREY Obituary

Claude Lorey passed away peacefully on June 16, 2017 at the age of 56 after an unexpected illness; surrounded by his family and many of the people who he loved, and those who loved and respected him. Claude was a man with a big heart and great capacity for love, empathy, patience, and dedication that belied his great stature. Throughout his life he relentlessly pursued his passions, which were varied, and many in number. He spent much of his youth professionally racing motorcycles and dragsters, working by his father's side in the grocery business for many years, and later moving into landscape and commercial construction management; and finally achieving his true passion of farming pecans at his home in Lordsburg, New Mexico. Claude loved working with his hands and being in nature. He saw God at work the most when he worked the pecan fields and cared for the farm animals. Claude had an appreciation and love for our Creator and knew who his life belonged to. He believed that life was a gift. He was a thoughtful and selfless man; he always did what he could for others first. Claude had the best laugh and always lightened the mood with stories and jokes; his sweet smile could light up a room. On a Sunday night he enjoyed drinking a fosters, smoking a good cigar, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football. He is survived by his wife, January and his 9 beloved children: Kristin (Nate), Crystal (Taylor), Kacie (Paul), Kaylee (Graf), Claude, Demi, Jared, Logan, Isiah, and 7 grandchildren, his siblings, Martina Lorey (Ron), Monica Lorey, Michele Rifai (Mostafa). Memorial services will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Claude may be sent to the Anthony Youth Farm, or your favorite charity, in lieu of flowers.

I grew up on Argentina Street in El Paso, as did Claude. I considered Claude to be my best friend as a kid before my family moved away to Utah. So many fun times, mischief and adventures! When I returned the first time to visit 6 months or a year later, he sprinted down the street full speed to meet me, and he insisted we go see a new movie just out, "Jaws." (A couple years later, same thing, "Close Encounters"). I´m sad I lost touch with him, but reading peoples´ tributes here has been touching. I´ve thought of him over the years, and I knew even back then that he was a great person.

Claude was a great friend of mine and my twin sister in High School and I will always remember what a nice guy he was and how much he loved fast cars, and motor cross racing. He is everything and more (as described about him in the obituary). I miss those good ole days. I am happy that he has such a great legacy in his children and grandchildren. My deepest sympathy and prayers are going out to Claude and to all of his family and extended family.

Claude was one of my best friends in high school, I watched him at a moto-cross race when his spleen was injured from another cyclist ramming into him. He just said don't worry, he'd be fine, later I saw him in the hospital. I will always remember his smile and kind spirit. He took my twin and I to Burges in bloom, because we didn't have dates. He borrowed his fathers cadilac and took my identical sister and I arm in arm to the dance. A cherished memory we will never forget. We will forever think of his lively spirit and laugh.
