Etta Scherr Obituary

Etta Mae Scherr

El Paso - •Etta Mae Friedman Scherr born April 1931 exemplified her birthstone, a diamond girl sparkling brilliantly to enlighten the life of everyone whose life she touched. Mazie devoted her life trying to help and inspire those she loved, always available, always insightful, always demanding excellence, with compassion and charity. Family first, devoted to her parents, brothers and sister, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mama Mae remembered birthdays and occasions, an encyclopedia of family history. El Paso always home, her country home the center of the universe, her family dinners were fantastic, charming and graceful (lucky to be invited) along with lively living room discussions. A voracious reader, she travelled the world yet seldom leaving her home, collaborating with her beloved brother as an editor on countless books, scripts and plays. Mazie graduated from El Paso High, USC for undergrad and TWC for her masters using her background to inspire children as a teacher in El Paso. Marrying Henry "Hank" Scherr in 1951, Mazie was a strong matriarch for her family and friends. Etta Mae was a devoted member of Temple Mount Sinai, enjoying playing the piano and singing songs written by her brother Allan Jay. Etta Mae is preceded in death by her husband Henry, parents Milton and Ray Friedman, Mimi Friedman, brother Karl Friedman and sister Romer Friedman. Survived by her best friend/brother Allan Jay Friedman, children: Janet & Andre Lerman, Jay & Jody Scherr, and Jim Scherr & Elma Carreto, grandchildren: Rhaelynne Scherr & Eric Frank, Maxey Scherr & John Engvall, Whitney Scherr, Milton & Jessica Lerman, Michelle Lerman & Sam McClandish, Jason & Tiffany Scherr, Jamie and Troy Gilmer, and Jasmine & Dylan Durrett. Other surviving family members include Romee & Jared Hebert, Stephen Kory Friedman & Randy Gernaat, Darren & Tara Friedman and many others, including her many loving great grandchildren. Private graveside services will be available virtually through Temple Mount Sinai website at 4 pm on January 17, 2021. Donations can be made to the Friedman family fund at Temple Mount Sinai.
