GRANT BELNAP Obituary

J. Grant Belnap, Jr. passed away of natural causes on January 21st, 2014 at the age of 84. He was born on January 4th, 1930 in Fullerton, California, second child to Jedediah Grant and Lola (Stephenson) Belnap. Grant is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Glenice Lillian (Belnap) Christensen, and his brother Roger Belnap. Grant married Elizabeth Wagner in the Mesa, Arizona LDS temple on June 22nd, 1953. Grant is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Wagner) Belnap; his younger brother, David Belnap; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Karen Marie (Wilson) Belnap; his son and daughter-in-law Phillip and Melinda (Hoopes) Belnap, his daughter and son-in-law Terri (Belnap) and Paul Cole; and his son and daughter-in-law Ron and Becky (Swallow) Belnap. Grant and Elizabeth have 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Grant received a full-ride football scholarship in 1948 and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 1956. He served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Mexican Mission from 1950-52. He earned a Master's Degree in Counseling from Long Beach State University in California. He worked as school teacher, school counselor, vice-principal, and administrator and touched many lives in doing so. He has lived in Riverside, California; Provo, Utah; Santa Ana, California; Laguna Beach, California; Colonial Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico; and El Paso, Texas. Grant retired in 2001 and continued to travel the world. He also served as a Stake Missionary for many years in his stake in El Paso, Texas. He enjoyed collecting records, surfing, football, and running track in his youth. Public viewing to be held at the Sunset Funeral Home-Americas, 9521 North Loop Drive, El Paso, Texas, on Thursday, January 23rd, from 7:00-9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Socorro LDS Chapel, 11300 North Loop Drive, El Paso, Texas (corner of North Loop and Liahona Drive) on Friday, January 24th, at 11:00 AM. Family viewing to be held at 10:00 AM preceding funeral services. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-Americas. Please visit our online registry at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net
