HERBERT CHAVEZ

1928 - 2017

Herbert E. Chavez passed away on Monday, October 09, 2017. He was born in Animas Creek N.M. on February 4th 1928 to Filomena and Ruben Chavez. He was inducted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. at Ft. Bliss, TX in April 1946, served with the 5th Air Force in Japan and was Honorably Discharged as Sgt. on September 1947. He worked at Hedrick Lumber Co. for 7 years under Lee Hedrick. He moved to El Paso and worked 9 years for J.D. Owen Supply under J.D. Owen. 23 years at Taylor-Simpkins under W.W. Bill Littlefield and 21 years at W. Silver Recycling Inc. under Bernard Fenenbock. He retired from W. Silver at the age of 80. Herb is survived by his wife Mary; Sons, Bruce Chavez, (Karrie Ann), Jerome H. Chavez and daughter Dr Sarah Chavez Gibson; Granddaughters; Sarah Marie Chavez-Gibson, Kandice Chavez and Amanda Chavez; Grandson, Jerry Chavez; 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and youngest Brother, Leroy Chavez. Preceded in death by his son Allan Joe; Parents Filomena and Ruben Chavez; Brothers, Edwin, Tino and Isaac Chavez; Sisters, Rebecca, Bernice and Gloria. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00pm on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Funeral Service will begin at 9:00am on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Committal Service will follow at 11:00am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. Luncheon will follow at 1:00pm at Stanton Elementary School Cafeteria located at 5414 Hondo Pass. Service entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
