Irving Schecter Obituary

SCHECTER IRVING SCHECTER, age 89, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011. He was the son of Celia and David Schechter. Irving was born in New York, NY. He served in the Signal Corps for the United States Army from 1941-1943. Irving came to El Paso in the late 1940s while working for Stein's Clothing for Men. A respected local businessman, he enjoyed a 70-year career in retail, having owned the Pants Outlet, Rayburn's Mens Wear, and the Big and Tall Men's Shop. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jean Lapowski Schecter, and his siblings, Molly Mace, Max Schecter, Jennie Friedman, and Jack Schechter. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Erline and Bruce Gordon; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Schecter; his grandsons Scott Michael Schecter and Craig Ryan Schecter; his sister Minnie Farber; sister-in-law Shirley Schechter and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 9:30AM at Temple Mt. Sinai, 4408 N. Stanton. Interment will follow at Temple Mt. Sinai Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Mt. Sinai, 4408 N. Stanton, El Paso, TX 79902, Congregation B'nai Zion, 805 Cherry Hill Lane, El Paso, TX 79912, Humane Society of El Paso, 4991 Fred Wilson Ave. El Paso, TX 79906, or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. Erasto Cortés, Dr. G. E. Martin, Dr. Genevieve Belgrave, Dr. Howard Pease, Dr. J. Humberto Serna, Dr. H. M.
