RICHARD MATTY Memoriam

In Loving Memory REV. RICHARD A.MATTY, (Father Rick) passed away five years ago on July 16, 2012 after an all too short life. Father Rick led a truly selfless, humble life in constant service to others. He was instrumental in bringing the ACTS movement to El Paso in 2001 and through his, and the efforts of others spread ACTS to nearly all parishes in El Paso and beyond. ACTS has changed the lives of thousands of people in our community. Father Rick's dedication to every soul was a beacon of light for everyone in an often dark world. As a priest and as a human being, Father Rick gave his life to the Catholic Church, his community, his parish, and his fellow human beings while reserving a special place in his heart for the people of Chiapas, Mexico. He was loved by everyone he met. The sacrifice by which Father Rick lived his life epitomized the words of Christ as set out in the Gospel of John: Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Everyone who knew Father Rick knew that he would lay down his life for them and his absence has left a hole in all of our hearts that can never be filled - he will be missed forever.

Thank you Father for being the example I needed in my life. You were you accepting, understanding, unjudgmental, kind, passionate, and truly represented what Christ taught. Regardless of my faith you will always be a shining example of how I lead my life and how to view others. You will never be forgotten. When I was young, I always remembered arriving at church and hoping that is was going to be you giving the sermon. When it was, you had a very engaged young man in your audience soaking in your message. My family and I love you and miss you dearly. You are so special! Bless you, Father.
