STEVEN BELL Obituary

On June 2, 2015, after a long, painful struggle with cancer, Steven Jay Bell left this earth to join our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Steve was born in El Paso on 03/17/1952 and lived most of life in this area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mae and Wayne Bell and his older brother, Joseph W. Bell. He is survived by his sister, Judy Bell White of Del Rio, TX and two nephews, Jody Bell of Anthony, NM and John T. Downing of Del Rio. After graduation from Gadsden High School, Steve worked in the horse racing industry. He worked several years for noted trainer, Babe Penn, and later obtained his own training license. Later he assisted his Father running a trucking business in Marathon, TX and later a farming operation in El Paso County. Steve will be remembered as a quiet, kind, and gentle person who never knowingly hurt another human being or any of God's creatures. He enjoyed mountain climbing and hiking in the Franklin Mountains and other mountains in southern New Mexico. He was a gifted and able horseman. For several years he was a member of the Specialized Saddle Endurance Racing Team and traveled throughout the US hauling horses, working on the pit crews, and assisting in race activities. Special thanks are offered to the following individuals who provided loving and compassionate care to Steve during his struggle with cancer. : Dr. Yasuhiro Oki, M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston, TX, Dr. Byron Chesbro, El Paso Cancer Treatment Center, Dr. Ana Arroyave, Mr. Jim Paul and his staff members at El Paso Hospice, Monte Vista, and the nurses and staff at Providence Memorial Hospital. Per Steve's request, he has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered on the mountains he climbed and loved. Adios Steve. You will be missed but we look forward to reuniting with you at the grand reunion upstairs. Your mountain climbing pals: Dwain Johnson, Drs. Tony Naylor and David Ferrell, and Hank Webb, your care giver and trusted friend.

A priviledge to know Steve.

Steve was a joy to know and work with. In 1976, he loaned me his new Ford pickup so I could put out luminarias for the Coronado High School senior fund raiser. And he told many great stories of life near the racing industry.
