William Stevens Obituary

Stevens, William Eugene Age 78, of Mankato, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 after a short battle with ocular melanoma. He died at home surrounded by his family. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church, Mapleton. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour before services at the church on Friday. Bill was born October 15, 1933, in Mankato, to H. Eugene and Marjorie (Davidson) Stevens. Bill lived on the family farmstead until 2003, when he moved to Mankato. He farmed in partnership with his father all his life and together they raised purebred Hereford cattle, corn, and soybeans. Bill did take a break from farming in 1955-1957 for Navy duty. He served aboard the USS Wisconsin and traveled worldwide. On June 6, 1953, he married Evangeline Sonnabend in Amboy, MN. They have three children, Jay (Leona) Stevens and their daughters, Natalie and Lauren of Richfield, MN, Jon (Kris) Stevens and their sons, Andrew and David, of Eagan, MN, and Joy (James) Pahl and their daughter, Chloe and son, Hunter of Green Bay, WI.
