Keith Rhein Obituary

Keith Alan Rhein, a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother, passed away at home in Coon Rapids on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025.
Keith was born in Winton, MN on July 19th, 1958, to Alan and Betty Rhein. He graduated from Ely Memorial High School in 1976. In 1981, he married Kay Mavetz in Ely, MN. They moved and established their family in Coon Rapids, MN and together they raised two children, Bethany and Matthew.
During high school, Keith was an avid athlete, playing both baseball and basketball. He served as the first baseman for the Ely Memorial High School baseball team and was recently honored for his role on the 1975 American Legion team – a recognition that brought him great pride. After graduating, Keith attended the University of St. Thomas, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Marketing. He went on to build a career in the Twin Cities, working for various manufacturing companies. It was during this time that he began dating Kay, who would later become his wife.
Keith and Kay shared a beautiful 44 years of marriage, filled with love and companionship. They especially enjoyed dinners out, taking walks, and spending time with friends. They were not just partners in life, but also the best of friends.
Keith found the greatest joy in spending time with Kay, their children and grandchildren. Together, they created countless cherished memories - attending sporting events, music concerts, school functions, trips to the Mall of America and Wisconsin Dells, and visits to Rochester and Richfield. Keith was an incredibly proud dad and grandpa who never missed a chance to share stories and photos of family with anyone willing to listen.
Keith passed on his love of sports to his children, coaching their baseball and basketball teams throughout their childhood and never missed a single game. He also shared his passion for music, spending countless hours listening and enjoying songs together – from Neil Diamond, Eric Clapton, Cliff Richards, John Mayer, Michael Jackson and many more.
Keith's passion for golf was undeniable – it brought him happiness, challenge and connection. Being a member of the Rum River Hills Golf Club was a source of pride for him. He truly treasured the friendships and bonds he built with fellow members over his 10 years there.
He is survived by his wife, Kay, daughter Bethany (Jeff) Brunton of Rochester, MN and son Matthew (Julia) Rhein of Richfield, MN; grandchildren Olivia and Myles Brunton and Nina Rhein; sister Susan (Wayne) Karge of Anchorage, AK, brother Gregory Rhein of Ely, MN; sister-in laws Diana Petrich (Curtiss Hinden) and Janice (Todd) Guenther, brother-in law John (Tracey) Mavetz, several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Alan Rhein.
A memorial visitation (no formal service) will be held at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel (1827 Coon Rapids Blvd, Coon Rapids, MN) on Monday, October 6th from 1:00-3:00 PM. Please join the family after from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Rum River Hills Golf Club (16659 Saint Francis Blvd, Ramsey, MN) for light appetizers as we gather to share stories, laugh and remember the special moments we've shared together with Keith.
