Phyllis J. Petrick

1939 - 2026

Phyllis J. Petrick, age 86, of Hibbing, MN, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at The Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN with family by her side. She was born on November 20, 1939, in Ely, MN to Joseph and Angela (Jasper) Godec.

Phyllis graduated from the Ely Memorial High School in 1957 and attended the Ely Junior College and while there she acted in the play 7 Angry Jurors plus sang in the Slovenian Choir at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She moved to Omaha with her sister, Judith, where Phyllis attended and graduated from Nettleton, Boyles Van Sant school for business. Several years later she moved to Hibbing, where she met her soon-to-be husband, Robert Petrick at Midland Electric.

Phyllis was a founding member of the Mesabi Opera Theater and sang in many performances at Hibbing College while also performing with the Blessed Sacrament Choir. During her working career she worked with Dane Construction, Midland Electric, Merchants, Miners Bank, Shell Tire and for 14 years as a receivable accountant at Leisure Hills. In her spare time, she loved to go deer, antelope, and turkey hunting. When she wasn't hunting, she would work on her Hardanger and make delicious pies. One of her favorite traditions was to make walnut potica every Easter and Christmas. She was very active in many exercise groups throughout the years and loved attending the Silver Sneakers group. She loved to travel with her husband all over Europe and some of her favorite places include Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Jerusalem, and her happy place on Side Lake with her fabulous neighbors.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of 52 years; sons, Joseph (Janet) Petrick, and Craig (Amy) Petrick; brother, Fred (Charlotte) Godec; and special people including Frank Malich, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and friends.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Judith.

A Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing, MN. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. A private interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
