David Wicker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Edina on Mar. 13, 2026.
David Michael Wicker, age 64, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away on March 5, 2026, following a courageous 14 year battle with neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. Born on April 12, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, David carried with him the warmth, generosity, and unmistakable spirit of his hometown throughout his life.

David graduated from Burnsville High School in 1979 and earned his bachelor's degree from Bemidji State University in 1983. He later completed his Master's degree in Athletic Administration at the University of St. Thomas in 1991, a reflection of his lifelong dedication to education and athletics.

For 41 years, David taught, coached, and served as an administrator in Minneapolis Public Schools, where he found deep purpose in supporting his students, staff, and athletes. He was an avid sports fan who loved playing, coaching, and administrating baseball, football, and hockey. Despite his many accomplishments, David remained profoundly humble and was never one to talk about himself; instead, he always focused on others.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Karin, his steadfast partner and closest companion. He is also survived by his two sons, Matthew (Kelsey) and Mark (Cecilia), who were his pride and joy, and by his beloved grandchildren, Norah and Rowan, who brought light and laughter into his later years.

He is further survived by his father, Michael Wicker, and his siblings Michael Wicker (Helen), Nancy Schmitz (Tim), Sally Wojahn (Bruce), and Amy Graves (Steve), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Wicker, whose love and influence remained a guiding presence throughout his life.

Those who knew David will remember his steady presence, his thoughtful nature, and the quiet strength he brought into every room. His kindness was genuine, his humor gentle, and his love for his family unwavering. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, integrity, and the countless ways he made life better for the people around him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Washburn-McReavy Edina Funeral Chapel, 5000 West 50th Street, Edina, MN 55436.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, March 20, at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., at St. Thomas Becket Catholic Church, 4455 South Robert Trail, Eagan, MN 55123.

Following the funeral, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life beginning around 1:30-2:00 p.m. at Union 32 Craft House, 2864 Highway 55, Eagan, MN 55121, where all are welcome to raise a glass, share stories, and honor David's life in the spirit he lived it.

Memorials may be directed to St. Thomas Becket Catholic Church or the Camden Patriots Foundation. For donations to the Camden Patriots Foundation, please note that the gift is in honor of David Wicker.

David will be deeply missed and forever loved.
