Timothy Rimer Obituary

Timothy Calvin Rimer
February 22, 1955 -October 24, 2024
Tim was the son of Charles and Lorraine Rimer, who grew up in Kentucky on the Western Edge of the Daniel Boone Forest. He moved to Ely in the early 80s to work "portage crew" in the BWCA, and stayed, living most of his life in the woods, including 19 years in his cozy home - a canvas tent with a wood stove. Tim was a unique individual who was well-read and informed, with a quick, sharp wit, which he practiced on anyone he knew. He died of colon cancer in Boundary Waters Nursing Home, in the care of Hospice. Survived by many friends.

Tim was one of a kind, and quirky, which made him all the more fun. He promised he would give me a sign from the other side. The caveat being he didn't believe in the other side. Thank you Tim for your generous friendship.

Sunny´s Person

Some Rimer Wit
My dog Sunny was well behaved, mostly. When friends would visit my home in the woods, their dog would tag along. Sunny and said dog(s) would have a grand time running, sniffing, leaving messages. Rolling in dead stuff. After observing this Tim concluded, dogs together get exponentially dumber; 2 dogs are as dumb as 4 dogs, 4 dogs as dumb as 16. And so on. :-)

Tim was someone you'll never forget. He was handsome, rugged and charming. He was quick with a response that would make you laugh. We shared many interesting adventures during the 19 years of our special friendship. There were some unpredictable moments at times but always a learning experience for both of us.
I will always treasure my memories of knowing Tim and being a part of his unique life.

Tim was one of a kind. We spent time paddling the BWCA, hiking and snowshoeing, often with a flask of brandy handy. He was generous, gifting me with useful things such as a Swiss Army knife. And he built a dog house for Sunny, my dog who always growled at him. Maybe it was the pipe tobacco smoke. I am grateful to have known Tim. RIP TCR.
