Alfred Marquart Obituary

Alfred Aloys Marquart, 85, Washington, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, in Union, with his loving family at his side.

Mr. Marquart was born June 20, 1936, on the family farm at Krakow, the son of Frank Marquart and wife Rose, nee Schmitt. He attended St. Gertrude School, Krakow, and received his GED in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years, attaining the rank of sergeant, and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Genevieve Luecke April 4, 1959, at Assumption Catholic Church, New Haven.

Mr. Marquart was a member of St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington, life member of Knights of Columbus Council 1121, Washington, Western Catholic Union Branch 209, life member of Max W. Mueller V.F.W. Post 2661 of Washington, 50+ year member of Carpenters Local 1839 and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Marquart; one son, Gary Marquart and wife Karen, Washington; three daughters, Laura Kleekamp and husband Ken, Olathe, Kansas, Louise Parker and husband Brad, Union, and Dr. Mary Marquart and husband Michael Krider, Jackson, Mississippi; sisters, Frances Meade and Gertrude Katzung and husband Joe, all of Washington; brothers, Frank Marquart and wife Rosemary, Femme Osage, Roman Marquart and wife Linda, Raymond Marquart and wife Pat, and Edward Marquart and wife Donna, all of Washington; six grandchildren, Derek Marquart and wife Meghan, New Haven, Ross Marquart, Washington, Deanna Hill and husband Nick, New Haven, Gwen Hampton and husband Brennan, Lee's Summit, Keith Kleekamp, Paducah, Kentucky, and Kelly Kleekamp, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one great-grandson, Connor Marquart, New Haven, and two future great-granddaughters to be born in March and June; sisters-in-law, Rose Marquart, Washington, and Geraldine Williams and husband Charles, Knob Noster; brother-in-law, Charles Mantle, Washington; godchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Marquart was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose Marquart; three brothers, Ralph Marquart and wife Catherine, Wilfred Marquart and John Marquart; four sisters, Alverna Marquart, Mary Ann Kraft, Leola Mantle and Lillian Nieder; and five brothers-in-law, Martin Kraft, Jerome Nieder, Melvin Meade, Norbert Luecke and wife Anna Marie and Charles Luecke and wife Linda.

Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 6, from 3-7 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, Washington.

A memorial Mass was held Monday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with a reception following at the Washington V.F.W.

Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to St. Francis Borgia Parish, V.F.W. Post 2661 of Washington, Heartland Hospice of Union, Franklin County Honor Flight or a charity of donor's choice.

The Marquart family was served by Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
