David Mohart Obituary

David Edward Mohart, 41, Washington, passed away suddenly Monday, July 20, 2015, in Washington.

David, son of John K. Mohart and wife Mary, nee Mansfield, was born June 24, 1974, in St. Louis. He received his education from Chaminade College Preparatory School, St. Louis, and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where he met his future wife, Gina Simpson. They were united in marriage Oct. 7, 2000, in St. Louis. David completed his medical training with an anesthesiology residency at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

He was a devoted father to Ava Catherine, age 10, and Olivia Mary, age 8. David was at his best when caring for, coaching, teaching, or just spending time with his young daughters. Last winter, he coached Ava's basketball team to an undefeated season, but most importantly, their team had lots of fun, learning silly cheers and good sportsmanship. He could often be found bouncing on the backyard trampoline with Olivia, helping her with cheerleading stunts and tumbling skills, or with her hoisted high on his shoulders.

He was a gifted athlete and sports fan, playing baseball on Chaminade's first state championship baseball team in 1992. He also enjoyed playing basketball, golf, running, watching his beloved Kansas City Chiefs, and loved to bust a move on the dance floor.

He was preceded in death by his father, John K. Mohart, May 28, 2015, and David delivered a beautiful eulogy about the incredible legacy he left behind. David and his dad shared a love of nature, and planted an ever-expanding orchard, which was John's dream, so that his grandchildren could pick his apples, peaches, and plums long after he was gone.

David is also survived by his brother, John Mohart and wife Ann-Elizabeth, Washington; three sisters, Teresa Halsted and husband Rob, Washington, Janie Leahy and husband Joe, Chesterfield, and Mary Bolla and husband Steve, Wildwood; mother- and father-in-law, Nancy and Gregg Simpson, Grove, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Jessie Spriggs, Joplin; many adored nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

A memorial Mass was held Friday, July 24, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Washington, and was officiated by the Rev. James Theby.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Ava and Olivia Mohart Education Fund, in care of Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, 310 Elm St., Washington, MO 63090.
