Dorothy Witthaus Obituary

Dorothy H. Keller Sederes Witthaus, 88, Troy, Illinois, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, at Morningside of Troy in Troy, Illinois.

She was born Thursday, Feb. 23, 1933, in Highland, Illinois, the daughter of Walton and Helen Faires, nee Durbin. Mrs. Witthaus was born in Highland, Illinois, and grew up in Marine, Illinois, where she lived until November 1986 (except for a few months in 1953, when she lived in San Francisco, California, and 1954 to 1955, when she lived in Edwardsville, Illinois). She attended Marine schools and graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1951. She held an Insurance Institute of America Certificate in general insurance.

Mrs. Witthaus was a member of the former First Christian Church at Marine, served as president and member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and was a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of the Edwardsville-Drusilla Andrews Chapter NSDAR. She was a stenographer at Edwardsville Community Unit School District 7; secretary for the Madison County superintendent of schools; general's secretary at the Presidio of San Francisco, California; assistant deputy clerk at the Madison County Circuit Clerk's Office; and served as financial manager of Schmidt-Phillipe & Associates Inc. (formerly Chuck Schmidt Insurance), Edwardsville, Illinois, until retiring in 1986 after 26 years. She enjoyed crocheting, raising plants, gardening, traveling and reading.

Survivors include her son, Richard D. "Rick" (Diane) Keller Jr., Troy, Illinois; daughter, Cynthia L. (Richard Jr.) Moore, Helena, Montana; grandchildren, Kendrick Robert Keller, Troy, Illinois, and Karina Diane Keller, Manteca, California; stepchildren, Daniel R. (Lynn) Witthaus, Steven M. (Erin) Witthaus, Nicolas L. Witthaus and Lori L. Witthaus; and step-grandchildren, Eric Lee, Patrick Thomas, John Patrick "Jack" and Mary Katherine "Katie" Witthaus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walton and Helen Faires; husbands, Richard D. "Don" Keller, Chester M. "Chet" Sederes and Wilbert L. "Wimpy" Witthaus; son, David M. Keller; and sister, Janet Keller Hall.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Illinois.

Interment was at Marine Cemetery, Marine, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements were in care of Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Illinois.
