Harry Kemper Obituary

Harry A. Kemper, 83, New Haven, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at Cedarcrest Manor, Washington.

Harry, son of the late Henry A. Kemper and wife Augusta C., nee Cordes, was born Jan. 14, 1931, in St. Louis. He was united in marriage to Lois E. Brinkman July 29, 1950, at St. John the Baptist Church, St. Louis. Throughout their 55-year marriage, they made a home for their three children, and raised, rode and enjoyed Arabian horses. Harry volunteered with the Missouri Arabian Horse Association for 30 years, often as ringmaster, and also delivered for Meals on Wheels through the Washington Senior Center. He owned and operated Kemper Construction, and held membership in Carpenters District council of St. Louis and vicinity for over 55 years. Harry was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington, and was a faithful fan of his grandson's baseball, basketball, soccer and football games.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lois E. Kemper; parents, Henry A. and Augusta C. Kemper; three brothers, Robert Kemper, Walter Kemper and Francis Kemper; one sister, Jean Schnorbus; and one brother-in-law, Richard English.

He is survived by two sons, James A. Kemper, New Haven, and Stephen H. Kemper and wife Lisa, Waterloo, Ill.; one daughter, Laura Amlong and husband Rob, Labadie; one sister, Mary Ann Shay, St. Louis; six grandchildren, Stephaney Kemper, Natalie Kemper, Haley Kemper, Jonathan Amlong, Matthew Amlong and Will Amlong; two sisters-in-law, Betty J. English, and Carol A. Geitz and husband Riley; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington.

A service followed, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church.

Interment was private.

Memorials are appreciated to Camp Wyman, 600 Kiwanis Drive, Eureka, MO 63025, www.wymancenter.org.

The Kemper family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
