Andrew Payer Obituary

Andrew Payer Andrew Payer (W3TLA), age 82, of Harborcreek Twp., died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Hamot Medical Center. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on November 29, 1923, son of the late John and Susan Placko Payer. Andrew had lived in the Erie area since 1949. He was a graduate of Rayen High School in Youngstown and completed two years of college. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was part of the Ghost Army in 1944. Employed with Lord Corp. for 10 years before retiring in 1989, he had previously retired in 1979 from ADT following 30 years of service. Andrew was an Amateur Radio operator, receiving his operator’s license at the age of 16. His call letters were W8VUC and W3TLA. He was a member and volunteer fireman for Fairfield Hose Co., a member of American Legion Carl Neff Post 571 and Disabled American Veterans. Andrew was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joan Naguszewski Payer; one son, Brian Payer and his wife Cyndi of Greene Twp.; two grandsons, Aaron and Joshua; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hornak and Sue Vargo and two brothers, John & Joseph Payer. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Further visitation will take place Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, 5414 East Lake Rd., from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service there at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David A. Laakso officiating. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or Hamot Heart Institute, 120 East 2nd St., Erie, PA 16550. American Legion Carl Neff Post #571 will conduct a service Sunday evening at 7 p.m. and will also conduct a full military service at the Cemetery. I'm was heartborken to hear about the loss of Mr. Payer. It's hard to believe that 23 years have gone by. Even thought it has been a long time, I have thought of all of you often. I regret not being able to attend the services, but please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
